This exhibition of paintings using oil paints and mixed-media techniques exposes the observers to powerful paintings of great dimensions, which showcase the Dead Sea’s primeval landscapes as perceived by Nir Slav. He processed these sights into homogenous compositions with a unique atmosphere, perceptive color space and prominent textures. The landscapes were observed across varying times throughout the day and documented from a variety of perspectives: from the front and from above, and from different distances.The dominant blues blend with the yellowish hue of the ground and the sky’s colors which vary depending on the time of day during which they were observed and/or Nir’s inner feelings. An encounter of contrasts: land and sea, quiet and storm, eternal static serenity and motion, life and death. The layers of color are composed in an organized manner one next to the other, similar to the geological levels formed over a lengthy period of time. The gradual lyrical transitions between them transform the surfaces into embossments that provide a sense of texture and volume.
The exhibition was showcased at the Hayek Center in Jaffa in 2012 and at the Weil Center in Kfar Shmaryahu in 2014.
